FOR PARENTS
We focus on pre-schoolers. Start with us early.
We accept the youngest judoka from age 5. Monday and Wednesday from 5 PM in the Tigers group — playful form, falls, coordination. We've put together answers to the most common parent questions; if anything is missing, get in touch.
From what age can children join the club?
We accept children from age 5. Tigers (5–6, pre-school) train Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 PM in playful form. Youth (7–11) train Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 PM. Older children and adults share the Juniors and Adults 12+ group on the same days from 5:30 PM. We focus on pre-schoolers — the earlier you start, the bigger the progress.
What does a child need for the first training?
Loose sportswear (sweatpants, t-shirt) and a water bottle are enough. Children train barefoot, so shoes are removed before stepping onto the tatami. A judogi (judo gi) is purchased after the first month, once the child confirms interest.
Is judo safe for my child?
Judo is among the safest martial arts for children. Training begins with falls (ukemi), teaching the child to fall safely — a skill useful in everyday life (cycling, stairs, sport). We train on certified sport tatami mats.
Should I take out accident insurance for my child?
We recommend it. Many sport insurance policies classify judo as a high-risk sport, and standard accident policies often exclude it. We work with a financial specialist, Richard Pělucha, who can tailor the calculation specifically for judo. See the „Accident insurance" section below.
Where do trainings take place?
At our dojo at Sokolovská 1010, Dobřany (across from Káčko cinema). The registered seat of the association is at Lipová 1287, Dobřany.
How much does membership cost?
Membership fees vary by group and frequency (from September 2026 Tigers may optionally train twice a week for a higher fee). Specific amounts will be shown in the online registration form or upon request.
Can I come and watch a training?
Yes — the first two trainings are free and without commitment. Bring your child and approach coach Karel. See the schedule for times.
How do I learn about schedule changes or club news?
Regular communication goes through the club WhatsApp group — you'll find training changes (e.g. coach absence), tournament information, Sunday conditioning times, and running session announcements there. After registration, Karel will send you an invitation.

Accident insurance for your child
Judo is often classified as a high-risk sport in standard accident policies — which means basic health or accident insurance may have an explicit exclusion for injuries sustained during training or tournaments. Injuries do happen in the dojo: children grow, fall, learn. The club doesn\'t take out insurance on parents\' behalf — that\'s your decision — but we want you to know in advance, not after an incident.
We work with Richard Pělucha, the club\'s financial specialist. Richard can tailor a calculation specifically for judo and compare several offers without pressure — no salesperson, no banner ads. If you already have your own specialist, talk to them. If not, you can reach out to Richard directly.
The club gets no financial benefit from this. Working with Richard is practical for the club — when something happens, we know who to refer parents to.
